Out-of-Office

You'll likely find me out-of-office doing backpacking, alpine climbing, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, photography, or reading. I feel that having these Type II Fun hobbies (the former few) is a fundamental component of a well-rounded, happier life (always up to debate that!)

I pursue these activities - sometimes even solo despite inherent risks - for the thrill. Constantly stepping outside my comfort zone has allowed me to develop a type of mental and physical resilience I was never able to find with other activities. Also, the constant exposure to demanding activities (like route-finding on mountainous/alpine terrain) has caused the development of my spatial awareness which has helped me understand my working environment a bit better. This has resulted in finding efficiencies or better alternatives in my systems.

My Philosophies

I believe that having even one small philosophy that guides you is super beneficial to how you bring yourself through life. I have several which are discussed below, but I do sincerely encourage you to find some yourself!

My primary philosophy is the idea that not everything in life has to be planned to exactitude. There have been several occasions where, when leading large groups or going on solo backpacking trips, I realized that planning can help to a certain extent. Beyond said extent, I found myself wasting time due to unforeseen conditions on-the-day (say, running out of certain supplies or rain that never appeared on the forecast).
